On April 14th, the Joyce-Gillespie-Harrington (JGH) Educational and Charitable Foundation, Inc., in cooperation with the Zeta Upsilon Lambda Chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha Inc., awarded scholarships to 10 area high school seniors each a $1,500 scholarship award. The scholarship awardees were presented at the 38th Black & Gold gala that was held at Westfield’s Marriot Washington Dulles Hotel with more than 450 guests celebrating the student’s achievements.
The JGH scholarship committee evaluated student academic achievement, community service history, extracurricular activities and recommendations to determine scholarship awardees. The award also requires the scholarship winners to be graduating seniors from local high schools enrolling in an accredited 4-year college or university for the Fall 2018-19 school year. All of the applicants were impressive and worthy of awards.
For 38 years, the Joyce-Gillespie-Harrington Educational & Charitable Foundation, Inc. and members of the Zeta Upsilon Lambda Chapter have provided educational opportunities for students and scholarships for local area college-bound high school seniors.
We look forward to continuing our support to help students achieve their dream of higher education. We thank the students and parents for applying for our scholarships and our community and corporate supporters who make efforts possible.
We will be awarding scholarships in 2019 during the 39th annual Black and Gold gala and will provide application information in late 2018 at http://jghfdn.org/.
